When you learn to experience everything as energy, it has profound effects on the way you live your life and the choices you make. Although logic and mental discernment are still helpful, you are now more concerned with your energy interactions, not only with people and other living beings, but also with places, and choices about where you go and what you do.
A friend and I were discussing hotel choices for an upcoming trip. She was trying to book lodging online. The internet and the wealth of information it provides can be an effective and efficient tool for making choices. But often this abundance causes our brains to overload and shut down when faced with so many opportunities. To many choices can often be worse than too few.
My friend was experiencing this problem. There are so many hotels to choose from, and so many tools to help make that decision. There are the hotel websites with lots of great photos. There is advertising of course, and sites like Trip Adviser where you can see the comments of others. There is so much information that your mind quickly becomes overwhelmed and you become mired in indecision. You know the right hotel is out there and you know your vacation experience can be affected by your choices. What to do?
This was my friend’s dilemma. She had so many choices and so much information about all of them that she was paralyzed with indecision. She was trying to use her mind to sort out all the information and instead became overwhelmed. This indecision was also leading to anxiety about whether it was possible to make the right choices at all.
When your mind is overloaded, you have another way to make choices. You can employ your energetic awareness. Instead of relying on advertising and Trip Adviser (it’s often just the cranks who write in anyway), let the energy of the place speak to you. Read the description and look at the photos and imagine yourself being there. Let yourself sink into the energy of the space. Notice how your personal energy changes when you do this.
Do you feel uncomfortable and ill-at-ease, or do you feel inspired and energized? Do you feel anxious and on edge, or does your energy feel harmonized and resonant with well-being? The energy connection between you and the choice you are considering will give you the information you need.
After experiencing mental paralysis, my friend had an entirely different reaction when she used her intuitive senses to connect or “feel into” her hotel choices. Instead of overwhelm and confusion, she was able to quickly identify the hotels that meshed with her own personal energy field. After she returned, she happily reported that every hotel had been “just right”.
You can also use this technique to optimize your work-flow during the day. When you find yourself in a position to organize your own workday, you will notice that sometimes work seems to go quite quickly with successful outcomes, and other times it proceeds slowly with great irritation and many roadblocks and distractions.
I find that when I outline the work I have to do in a day and then feel into the energy of each project or activity, I can easily choose which one feels right in the moment. When I allow my energy senses to choose instead of my mind, I have a much more enjoyable and successful workday, and accomplish much more than when I use my mind to determine what I should do. I
I have no logical explanation as to why the energy of one project feels right at one time, and the energy of another project feels better at another time, but as long as I let my energetic proclivities direct my workday, I really enjoy my work. Even mistakes or roadblocks are fewer, and when they do occur I am not irritated, but treat them as interesting challenges.
If, on the other hand, I allow my mind or a deadline to force me into a job that I really don’t want to do at the time, I find myself getting annoyed and irritated at the least little thing, and consequently become easily distracted and make many more mistakes than I would otherwise. My creativity is stymied and blocked and I have difficulty getting anything done. Even if it is an activity I normally enjoy, doing it when I’m “not up for it”, takes away all the fun and turns it into drudgery.
Trusting your energy senses can also give insights into the future. If, for example, you plan a vacation, and then start feeling uncomfortable about it for no good reason, you may be receiving important information. For me, feelings of unease about future events usually mean that they are probably not going to happen, or if they do, they will not be enjoyable. Now when this happens, I pay attention and feel into other choices until I land on one that carries more positive energy.
It takes courage and perseverance to begin trusting your energy senses in making choices. Start small and then notice the results. You’ll be amazed at how much easier and more enjoyable life becomes.
