A worldview is how we look at, and understand reality. It provides us with the information we need to navigate in the world, to keep ourselves safe, and to seek success and happiness. It is so pervasive that we hardly ever think about it consciously. It just is! – very much like water is to fish.
Our current worldview in 21st century Western civilization is still mostly based on our experience with physical matter and the classical or Newtonian rules that govern it. These rules include cause and effect, the use of force as an instrument of change, the discrete separation of objects in space, and time as a constant that always runs in the same direction.
Although Einstein first proposed a reality based on energy (rather than matter) over one hundred years ago, it took until the 1960’s for young people to begin to notice that human beings do, indeed, have energy attributes. We know this from the slang of that era. Phrases like “good vibes” and “bouncing off the walls” are metaphorical clues that energy awareness was beginning to rise to consciousness.
Today, at the dawn of the 21st century, most people agree that we can often pick up energy from other people or from spaces where intense energy has been focused. Most people have experienced apparent energetic communication that allows them to know that the ringing phone is sister Kate from San Francisco before even reaching for the receiver. And energetic healing modalities such as homeopathy, acupuncture and kinesiology are much more mainstream than ever before.
What is less commonly understood, however, is the radical nature of a world where physical and energetic reality exist side by side. This is because the rules of physical reality and the rules of energetic reality are completely different, and in many cases totally opposite (see The Nature of Energy). This is why both awareness and understanding of the energy dimension has been so slow to awaken.
The 21st century will be one in which we begin to understand the profound changes in thinking that an awareness of the energy dimension brings. First we will need to understand the unique attributes of energy and how different it is from matter. Then we must learn the rules of this new realm and how to apply them effectively. Eventually we will have to integrate our knowledge of energetic reality with that of physical reality so that we can navigate successfully in both, and make conscious choices about which rules are most appropriate to use in which circumstances.
Understanding the unique attributes of energy and the rules that govern it helps solve many of the puzzles of human life. Events and circumstances that have always seemed inexplicable, now start to make perfect sense. Learning to navigate the energy dimension means moving into a more compassionate and loving relationship with ourselves and others, nurturing the ability to communicate consciously with both our physical bodies and our souls, learning to honor and respect the energy of plants, animals and the planet, and understanding how to manifest our greatest personal potentials.
This radical change is like telling a fish that it’s now possible for him to live on land as well as in water, and that he has the potential to learn what he needs to make this happen. It may take him a while to master the skills required, but the rewards are mind-boggling and beyond his wildest dreams.
And it’s just around the corner.
